#TheGrind – Vegan In the City
While scrolling on my timeline or flipping through Instagram stories, I almost always see a friend switching to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle and talking about the benefits of it. Even Beyoncé made the switch! Now I know what you’re thinking, eating clean may have its benefits but can the food actually taste good? I found three vegan and vegetarian spots for the readers who are balling on a budget but also want to stick to their health kicks while doing it!
First up is Red Bamboo, a cozy vegan restaurant located just half a block away from Washington Square Park. This is a great choice for vegans who enjoy a variety of food while still eating clean. Red Bamboo prides themselves on adding new dishes from around the world to their menu everyday from chicken and fish tacos to curry wings, there’s something for everyone. They also provide an extensive lunch menu with meals starting at just $9!

Our next stop is in Brooklyn for Greedi Vegan, a black owned restaurant located on Bergen Street. If you have a craving for home cooked vegan soul food, this is the place for you! Owner Latisha Daring strives to incorporate her southern roots into her diverse menu making the food healthy but tasty too. The menu also ranges from small plates to large entrées and features The Greedi Brunch offering vegan plates starting at just $12 on the weekends from 10am to 2pm. They’re also working on building a new location in Bed Stuy, which we love because what’s good food if it isn’t accessible to the community?

Sweet Mama’s Soul Food Restaurant & Salad Bar is our last location, a buffet style soul food and salad bar offering a wide range of foods for the vegetarian and pescatarian on the go! What’s dope about this spot is its dedication to high quality food and the health choices of their customers. They never reuse food and use separate equipment to cook meat, poultry, seafood and of course vegetables.
